Established in 2012 by producer Mick Ross and James Hennin, Mono Studio is becoming the go-to music production hub in the creative & vibrant environment of Newcastle’s Ouseburn Valley. As part of the Mono collective, it’s joined by the record label, graphic design and live events companies.

The Adam S3A is the choice for demanding recording engineers who need to monitor deep bass in mid sized control rooms. One woofer acts as a full-range driver with the second woofer joining it only below 150Hz. This unusual approach effectively doubles the area and power of the woofer when it needs to respond to deeper frequencies, resulting in an exceptionally tight and punchy low end without compromising midrange performance.
The S3A has three 150W amplifiers that deliver outstanding dynamic performance. It can be used either horizontally or vertically, so that very flexible positioning within the studio is possible. You get the same superior resolution above 2 kHz from these monitors that sets all Adam loud speakers apart from their competitors and by applying moderate equalization to the low end nearly an additional octave in bass response is achieved compared with a passive system.
The S-3A woofers and tweeter are each powered by separate 150W RMS amplifiers and are actively crossed over at 150Hz/1.8 kHz. The system's frequency-response has highs extending all the way to 35 kHz and lows down to 32 Hz (±3 dB). Tweeter gain can be adjusted 4 dB up or down with a pot on the panel. Also found on the panel of the S3-A are contour controls (+/- 6 dB) for high- and low-shelf filters at 6 kHz and 150 Hz, respectively. The balanced analog input is on a balanced XLR connector.
The Tannoy System 800A Near Field Monitoring Speaker
"I was mixing some Pop/R&B music and I used the main monitors for getting sounds (EQ, compression, gating etc.), establishing track size and gauging overall top and bottom qualities. I do all this at loud levels and often return from the near-fields to check on anything that might not show up at softer levels. After I have rough track mix going, I switched down to the Tannoys. Immediately I noticed that all tonal perspectives pretty much stayed the same as the large monitors. Before I hooked up the Tannoys I had already determined that the mains (in this particular studio) were a little bright and lack some bottom end. The 800A's confirmed this right away reproducing the missing lows and pulling down the top. One of things I liked, and the reason why different sets of speakers are a great luxury, is that the 800A's have a warm upper bass/lower mid-range quality I miss on some other systems. This makes them easy to balance music on and very non-fatiquing to my ears. Barry Fox at TGI says "the dual puts more total energy into the room at the crossover point than a regular two-way system and basically behaves as a single full-range drive unit with a single point-source."
The mix project went well with all the mixes holding up well on a variety of playback/speaker systems. I didn't get bass heavy, dull mixes that can happen with small, bright and bass-light speakers and there was no change in the intrinsic musical balances I got using the 800A's only. “
MSP5 Studio Powered Monitor Speaker
Like the larger MSP7 STUDIO, the MSP5 STUDIO is a two-way bi-amplified bass reflex system that delivers outstanding monitoring precision for digital or analog production in stereo or surround formats. The more compact dimensions of the MSP5 STUDIO make it an ideal choice for smaller project studios and DAW based production systems. The MSP5 STUDIO features a 5 inch cone woofer driven by a 40-watt amplifier and a 1 inch dome tweeter driven by a 27-watt amplifier.
Other than woofer size, enclosure size, and amplifier power, the MSP5 STUDIO takes advantage of the same advanced materials and design technology that are behind the extraordinary performance of the MSP7 STUDIO. The woofer and titanium-dome tweeter feature advanced magnetic structures that achieve exceptionally low distortion, and the tweeter works with a unique waveguide horn that achieves broad, uniform high frequency dispersion over 120 degrees for optimum balance regardless of listening position. Advanced driver and enclosure design — including the low-diffraction rounded baffle — also ensure smooth, uniform dispersion across the system's full reproduction range. Flat frequency response out to 40 kHz makes the MSP5 STUDIO great for mastering, where high sample and bit rates are the norm.
